EP: 3 The Responsible Facilitation Method
“Surprise is not trauma-informed.”
I built the Responsible Facilitation Method because my first training left me in session after session where I didn’t know what I was doing. The rules I pieced together from other trainings, from survivors and victims’ advocates, and from some very knowledgeable friends became what I teach at BLS.
In this episode I walk you through the four steps we use in every session, whether it’s conscious connected breath, three-part breath, or a rest-state breath:
1. Arrive early
2. Prepare the client
4. Facilitate
3. Give aftercare
And the thread running through all four: agency. The session belongs to the person breathing. They can go as far as they want, stop whenever they want, and say no to anything. We cheer them on every time.
I also share how we build up to full sessions month by month in the training, so nobody gets tossed into the deep end with their fingers crossed.
Next episode: Sherry, a clinical psychologist who’d already done a breathwork training, signed up for BLS anyway, and says what changed was their confidence.
